Sevierville

Gateway to the Smokies

Sevierville

South of the Smoky Mountain National Park lies the city of Sevierville, located just outside of the Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge area. The Gateway to the Smokies is just that, yet also serves as a nice reprieve from tourism hot spots just down the way. Sevierville is home to more locals and hosts a community of people trying to bring back that feeling of yesteryear.

Stamp your passport:

Old Tennessee Distilling feels like “coming home”. Visitors are welcome to tour the distillery to see the fermenting process, while also learning information about the local area. Here at the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, we highly recommend doing a tasting and trying a little bit of everything – which includes an array of flavored moonshines, whiskey, rum, vodka, gin and infused fruits.

Stay overnight:

Sevierville offers a wealth of lodging options, however, for an adventure-filled pet-friendly stay, The Ridge Outdoor Resort is a must. The resort offers a unique glamping option, allowing residents (and pets!) to experience the best of camping with all of the modern amenities including: tv’s, full kitchens, multiple bedrooms, and a bathroom, including a shower. The Ridge Outdoor Resort also offers guests the options of RV slips, and tiny homes, which surround a large community center, pool, and hottub.

History:

A step into yesteryear – Downtown Sevierville may be best known for its homage to its most famous resident yet, Dolly Parton. Smack dab in the middle of the square, you’ll find her memorialized in the way of a statue! But beyond that – the community of Sevierville has been working towards revitalizing their downtown by bringing back the nostalgia with local eateries, a soda shop and new theater.

Must Try:

Make dinner reservations at Seasons 101, a beautiful, American Bistro style restaurant located inside the Historic Central Hotel. This comfortable and casual dining experience offers upscale dishes at moderate prices. The family team behind the restaurant hopes that guests create memories around the table while offering sustainably sourced and seasonally influenced dishes. The Historic Central Hotel in downtown Sevierville is newly renovated and in addition to hosting Seasons 101, the hotel now hosts a coffee shop, rooftop event venue/lounge, restaurant and will soon be home to a speakeasy.

Go on an adventure:

From waterfalls and flying high to relaxing lakeside, Sevierville is a short drive from a world of adventures.

Just a quick trip to the south side of Smoky Mountain National Park, is an easy half mile hike to the cascading, Cataract Falls! Looking for more falls to discover? Take a drive through the park where over 200 waterfalls have been mapped, many of which are located road side. Looking for longer waterfall hikes in the area? Try Rainbow or Laurel Falls!

Sky High:

See the Smoky Mountains like you’ve never seen them before, by open cockpit airplane! There’s nothing like climbing into this piece of history and feeling the wind on your face as you experience open air flight with Sky High Air Tours.

Oh Dam:

Douglas lake and dam can be found in Sevierville, located at the foothills of The Smoky Mountains. The lake offers a variety of activities such as boating, paddling, fishing, camping and swimming but for us, it was a perfect spot to soak in the scenery and have a nice lunch far away from other people.
